This March, Sea Grant Fellows and Extension Specialists from across California gathered in Santa Rosa to exchange ideas and share their projects and progress. The 2013 California Sea Grant State Fellows have started their fellowships at agencies across the state and this meeting was an opportunity for them to present what they are working on and explore opportunities for collaboration with one another or with the Extension Specialists. You can learn more about this year’s fellows here.
In addition to meeting time, the specialists, fellows and Sea Grant administrators went on a field trip to the Russian River Basin to learn about CA Sea Grant’s coho salmon monitoring project. It was a great experience for those of us with office jobs and we were able to see up-close and in-person the impact that Sea Grant is making and the hard work that the Extension staff does.
Finally, this gathering was a chance to celebrate more than 30 years of service given to Sea Grant by Specialist Pam Tom. Pam will be retiring this summer, but her work in safe and sustainable seafood has made a lasting impact on the industry in the U.S. and abroad.
